The Joint Hospitals Scheme - The history & development of Foresterhill Hospital 
Join NHS Grampian Archivist Fiona Musk to explore how Foresterhill Health Campus came into being during the 1920s and 1930s, and the history of the Joint Hospitals Scheme which created it. Three of Aberdeen's hospitals moved from their city centre locations, and the talk will look at their histories and the reasons for their moves.

Join Professor James D. Hutchinson, Professor Emeritus, Regius Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Aberdeen, as he explores Aberdeen's medical firsts. Professor Hutchinson has now compiled a list of 109 medical discoveries with an Aberdonian connection and will be concentrating on drug discoveries and the people behind them in particular.

Walking the Aberdeenshire Coast with Keith Miller & Tony Boyle

Join Keith Miller and his friend Tony Boyle as they explore their experiences of walking the entire 250km of the Aberdeenshire coast in 2022 as part of Keith's rehab following a nasty bike crash. A book was produced on their adventure (The Silver Lining), documenting their experience, along with some historical facts of local interest and photographs of the stunning scenery.

The Life & Times of Dr Myra Mackenzie with Marion White G.P. (ret.)

Join retired G.P. Marion White as she explores the distinguished career of Dr Myra Mackenzie, the first woman to graduate in Medicine from the University of Aberdeen. The talk will cover Myra's graduation, her first appointment in Aberdeen, her move to England, followed by her work in Serbia as an anaesthetist where she provided help to Serbian children and refugees as part of the Scottish Women's Hospital, before her return to the UK where she trained in psychiatry and became a medical superintendent.

Scottish Suffragettes - The Suffragettes Fight for the Vote in Scotland with Professor Sarah Pedersen 
Burning down buildings, cutting train lines and pouring acid on golf courses. Join Professor Sarah Pedersen to learn more about the suffragettes' fight for the vote in Scotland, including fights in Aberdeen's Music Hall and attacks on politicians. Professor Sarah Pedersen investigates how Scottish women were at the forefront of the fight for the vote for women.

Our Event Space

If you like to use our cafe event space for a talk, workshop or charity event, then we'd love to hear from you! Our space lends itself to approx 20 sat at tables, or up to 45 seated more informally in rows. We have a large digital screen for presentations with clipon microphone and speaker. Catering can also be provided as required. Please email info@michies.co.uk with your idea.
